Your Neighborhood Chinese Delivery – Peking House

Sometimes I feel like we get so wrapped up in the new, the unique, and the expensive that we forget about our friendly neighborhood restaurants.  We forget that they are there as well, and looking to serve us delicious food with friendly service.  A few months ago, my love and I received a menu on our door for a Chinese restaurant I had never heard of before.  I’ll admit it, I felt kind of guilty for not having found this place previously.  I know it’s been there for years, but until life got busy and delivery was the best option for some nights, I never knew it existed.  So, ever since then, we’ve been indulging in amazing Asian cuisine almost once a week…and never leaving the comfort of our home.

Whenever we call to place our order at Peking House, the other person on the end of the line is always friendly.  The delivery driver is the Owner about 50% of the time, and the other 50% of the time, it’s an equally super friendly face when we open the door.  That, for me, is important.  One time, we went in there to pick up our dinner, and the owner asked us if their delivery wasn’t fast enough for us.  That means that A) they have figured out our regular order, and B) they care that their service is up to par.  It’s nice to know they pay attention to their customers!

I’ve dined in there once with my friend, and received just as nice of service.  The place mats on the tables evoke a certain nostalgia of a time when I was a child sitting at a Chinese restaurant and learning about the Chinese Calendar, and what it meant to be born in the Year of the Dog.  The decor is inviting, and at the time, there were children there that clearly belonged to the owners.  They were well behaved though, so that’s always a plus.  My friend ordered the General Tso’s Tofu dinner, and I had the General Tso’s Chicken dinner.  While my friend didn’t think the tofu was any different than other normal Chinese restaurants, she did say that she would order it again and explore other tofu options they might prepare.  The General Tso’s Chicken is definitely my favorite thing on their menu.  However, the Hibachi is a close second.

With delivery at home, we find that we order the Hibachi for Two quite often.  It has Shrimp, Chicken, and Beef with all the delicious veggies you can think of to enjoy with Hibachi.  The rice is always on point, and the white sauce…that white sauce is the best I’ve ever had before.  The Ginger Dressing and Wonton Soup is always great as well.  If we portion correctly, we can make 4 meals out of the portions that come with the Hibachi for Two.  All that for under $20.  It’s one of the many reasons we love Peking House.  Affordable AND delicious…hard to beat!

Last night we ordered in General Tso’s and Sweet and Sour Chicken.  I must say that the Sweet and Sour Chicken is quickly soaring to the top of my favorites.  It always arrives crispy, and the Sweet and Sour Sauce is quite tasty.  I guess it’s the Chinese answer to chicken nuggets, and I’m good with that fact.

I highly encourage anyone to go in and try it, or see if you’re in their delivery range.  They are owned by a very kind family, and that is always important to support.  On top of that, Elon students get 10% off!  Almost makes me want to go back to school.  Go support them, and if you’re not in Burlington, then support your own neighborhood Chinese Delivery folks.  Enjoy!
